Family Fun & Adventures in the Great Outdoors

As summer winds down you might be thinking of what you can do to have some outdoor fun with your family before the start of the new school year. If you have already had your family vacation and are trying to come up with some low or no cost ideas…There are so many things to do right here in Bucks County and even in your own back yard! Here are some suggestions:

Wilma Quinlan Nature Preserve: Take a walk through the 26+ acres of trails through the woods, meadows and along the Neshaminy Creek…be one with nature as you observe birds and the surrounding trees and shrubs. You can also explore Miriam’s Meadow just across the street on Landis Mill Road and observe the wildflowers and learn a little about nature along the way. (Main entrance to the preserve is on Mathews Avenue, accessed by Sand Road)

Covered Bridge Park: Why not pack a picnic lunch and head over to Covered Bridge Park for some family fun? You can talk a walk or bike ride along the bike/hike path, go fishing or check out the community garden and bee hives in Orchard Park.

Beyond the Borough…you could spend the day at Peace Valley Park and do some hiking, biking, sailing or fishing, explore the countryside and find the 12 remaining 19th century covered bridges of Bucks County, take a drive along the Delaware River and enjoy the beautiful views or explore Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve or Washington Crossing State Park for a bit of local history.

Whatever you decide to do we hope you enjoy time spent with family outdoors while the warm weather is still with us. Before you know it, it will be back to school!
